KP Government to Transform Nishtar Hall into Performing Arts and Music Academy
PESHAWAR, July 26 (APP) – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to promote performing arts and music education across the province by transforming Nishtar Hall Peshawar into a specialized academy for arts, culture, and music training.
According to Dr. Abdul Samad, Secretary of Culture and Tourism KP, the initiative will revive Nishtar Hall as a vibrant cultural hub after years of inactivity, giving a much-needed boost to the province’s artistic community.
Reviving KP’s Cultural Heart
Speaking at a meeting on the future of the Abaseen Arts Council, Dr. Samad emphasized that no major cultural events have been held at Nishtar Hall for several years, which he described as “a disservice to the arts.”
He revealed that new academic programs and courses are being developed, focusing on:
- Fine arts and literature
- Music and musical instruments
- Drama and theater training
- Performing arts education
These courses will utilize Nishtar Hall’s infrastructure to nurture skilled artists at provincial and national levels, creating opportunities for KP’s youth.
Expanding Cultural Opportunities Across KP
The meeting, attended by senior officials including Director General Culture and Tourism Authority Arif Habib, General Manager Culture Ajmal Khan, and representatives of the Abaseen Arts Council, discussed ways to broaden the council’s reach beyond Peshawar.
Dr. Samad urged the council to:
- Increase membership by including skilled individuals from all KP districts
- Develop a representation mechanism to ensure artists from every region gain recognition
- Establish Nishtar Hall as a platform for local and emerging talent
Boosting Youth Skills and Reducing Unemployment
Dr. Samad said the academy will help train young artists, reduce unemployment, and revive cultural activities in the province.
“This project will breathe new life into fine arts education, not just in Peshawar but across all of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he stated.
By converting Nishtar Hall into a dedicated performing arts academy, the KP government aims to revitalize the province’s cultural scene, promote creative industries, and empower youth through skill development.
