Rio de Janeiro — Prince William Expresses Hope for Future Generations
During his visit to Brazil ahead of the COP30 climate summit, Prince William said he tells his children that their future “will be as bright as those before them,” thanks to global efforts to repair the planet.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, the Prince of Wales emphasized that the younger generation needs to see real climate “solutions” to maintain hope amid rising environmental anxiety.
“Climate anxiety is a real thing,” he said. “I hear it everywhere I go. Young people often ask, ‘What kind of planet are we going to inherit?’ The younger generations need to be heard more.”

Earthshot Prize: Rewarding Innovation for the Planet
Prince William was in Rio de Janeiro to unveil the finalists for his Earthshot Prize, an initiative that supports groundbreaking environmental projects.
The £1 million ($1.3 million) award recognizes five winners each year whose innovations tackle urgent environmental challenges. This year’s finalists range from a company that created a microplastic filter to one that built a skyscraper using upcycled materials.
“The Earthshot Prize isn’t just philanthropy,” William explained. “It’s about creating commercial solutions that make life better for everyone.”
The winners will be announced later this week, with the prize designed to accelerate scalable climate solutions worldwide.

Inspiring His Children With Climate Optimism
Prince William shared that he regularly tells his children — Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7) — about the positive work being done by environmental pioneers.
“For my children, knowing the planet will be healthier because of the brilliant people in this room gives me hope,” he said. “I love telling them before bed: ‘Your future will be bright.’”
He added that these innovators prove that “urgency and optimism equal action”, a mindset he believes is key to tackling the global climate crisis.
COP30 and a Message of Change
During his Brazil trip, the prince is also scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at COP30, which begins Monday in Belém, in the Amazon region.
The conference brings together global leaders to discuss carbon reduction, deforestation, and renewable energy.
While the prince avoided questions about recent developments within the British royal family, he said he prefers to focus on “surrounding himself with people who want to make change and do good in the world.”
A Vision of Hope and Action
Prince William’s climate message blends realism with optimism — acknowledging the planet’s challenges while celebrating the scientists, entrepreneurs, and activists driving progress.
His visit comes as environmental issues dominate global discussions, with leaders under pressure to move from promises to practical action.
As reported earlier by Pashto Times, initiatives like the Earthshot Prize continue to inspire hope and highlight science-backed solutions to one of humanity’s biggest challenges.
